Purple Poetry // Contemplations

This is another original and narrative-driven variation on the sonnet format, similar to Wedding of the Damned. This is the Vocal version, which corrects some meter issues discovered in the dA version upon import. Contemplations examines a choice that must be made in a “Chosen One” story structure, where the protagonist is torn between warring ideals. What might they think as they make such a choice?

Until that day I never knew

Behind his eyes there hid a lie

Below the surface shining through

Beneath the turquoise ice and blue

Onto the pages of the sky

.

Beyond our faults it lies in wait

Beside our guilt and pride and greed

Against our wills we take the bait

For here all that we see is hate

Inside our spirits it shall breed

.

Along the line my soul must stride

Between the darkness and the day

Until it may come to decide

For which of them that it shall ride

While keeping my own pain at bay

.

On one side there stands my brother

Without whose steady hand I’ll fall

On the other stands the Mother

Make the choice: one or the other

Regarding my life overall

.

Beside the Mother I stand tall.
