Internal Battle

Purple Poetry // Internal Battle

This Shakespearean sonnet first appeared on dA and then Vocal. The overarching theme is mental illness and the struggle that comes with battling intrusive thoughts and destructive (including self-destructive) urges that feel ever-present and immortal when in the throes of an episode.

The Darkness of my core is all I know,

For Labyrinths of the Soul are scarcely lit.

The Sorrow, sweet, is my Immortal Foe,

The Pain, so deep inside I drown in it.

.

My Struggle, futile, endless, lost in Dreams,

And desperate are my tearful, fearful Tries

To finally escape these iron Seams,

To free Myself from black-washed walls of Lies.

.

“You always and Forever mine shall be.”

“I won’t allow this Bondage anymore!”

“Ha! Never from your Soul shall You be free!”

“My distant Peace is balanced on this War…”

.

I cannot kill this Demon in my mind,

But Free am I if shattered is Its Bind.
