Superincumbent

Purple Poetry // Superincumbent

The backstory of this short rhyming poem is a bit less poignant than the other DeviantArt poems I have brought over to Medium. I stumbled across the title in the dictionary and its definition (lying or resting on something else) resonated with me. The weight of my trauma and mental illness sometimes seems like a physical presence resting on my chest, my shoulders, my back, my throat. Thus, the poem was born.

Suppression

Depression

Confession

Of lies

.

I bow down

To the ground

And I drown

As I cry

.

And I see

What’s in me

What will be

In your eyes

.

But I can’t

Understand

Why you rant

While I die
