What’s the Use?

Purple Poetry // What’s the Use?

Published first on DeviantArt and Vocal.Media. In this rhyming poem, I explore the concept of hopelessness and how it ties into depression. With each question, a thread is pulled, and the light dims a bit more until the inevitable (in the sense of being where the story is headed) conclusion is reached.

What’s the use of smiling,

With no reason left to grin?

What’s the use of laughing,

When there’s no light left within?

What’s the use of talking,

When there’s no one left to hear?

What’s the use of hiding,

When it’s everything you fear?

What’s the use of loving,

When all you can get is hate?

What’s the use of praying,

When at last you’ve lost your faith?

What’s the use of crying,

When there’s no one left to help?

What’s the use of feeling,

When just sorrow can be felt?

What’s the use of learning,

Things that you already know?

What’s the use of running,

When there’s nowhere you can go?

What’s the use of giving,

When all you can get is strife?

What’s the use of living,

With no reason left for life?
