Purple Poetry // Spring Musings

A Medium exclusive! In this flowery, seasonal sonnet I explore the sensory experience that is spring, with a nod to what makes it all worthwhile. Originally penned for a poetry contest, the prompt was to write a happy sonnet using the word lemon.

The scent of lemon blossoms fills the air!

’Tis spring and nymphs are brightening the trees

With white and yellow flowers here and there

And greening boughs as far as my eye sees.

*

The rain falls oh so gently on the grass–

Veridian and fragrant, bright and strong.

The colors pop like panes of painted glass

While birds begin their morning sing-along.

*

Strawberries ripen quickly on the vine;

Their sweetness lingers on my eager tongue.

Warm sunlight filters down through clouds so fine

To bathe my soul in comfort; spring has sprung!

*

This season brings sweet splendor, it is true–

But naught compares to spending it with you.
